Mastery Learning
Mastery Learning means that a student will master the skills and knowledge in a unit. This goes beyond being proficient--it is striving for mastery, competence.
As a proficient student you should, for each historic period, be able to explain each strand, give examples, and understand how the strands interrelate.
Points to Ponder:
Make up work—if you have an excused absence you make up the work as prescribed by the student handbook. It is your responsibility to make up the work.
Index Cards—every student should have a packet of 3x5 index cards. A packet should get you through the year in this class.
Team Work—in this class you will often be working in teams. Remember, you will be graded on what is accomplished in your group. This does not mean that you cannot talk about other things as they come up in conversation; however the direction of your conversation needs to be towards accomplishing your goal.
Identifying Your Work—you must have both your first and last name on all your work. I cannot give Mr. of Ms. Anonymous a grade.
Textbooks—you are responsible for keeping your book in the shape in which it was issued. Do not stuff papers in your book, this is bad on its binding and is a misuse of school property.
Online Quizzes and Assignments—when given an online quiz or assignment you will be given an appropriate amount of time to complete your work. I understand that not everyone has a computer or Internet connection at home; however there are computers available here at school.
Grades—these will be normally posted on the bulletin board in my room by your student number on Mondays, additionally parent access is available online.
